GORAKHPUR, Dec. 29 -- Directing officials to ensure that no poor suffer during the harsh weather conditions, chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday said the state government has released adequate funds to protect them from the ongoing cold wave.
On Sunday, the CM inspected the night shelters at TP Nagar and Dharamshala Bazaar here. He stated that the 'double-engine government' was working with full commitment to provide relief to the people.
"Necessary funds have been released to all districts for the distribution of blankets and woollen clothes, operation of night shelters, and arrangements for bonfires," Adityanath said.
He added that district magistrates have been instructed to close schools and declare holidays if required due to extreme cold, and to arrange virtual classes whenever necessary.
During the inspection, the chief minister directed officials to ensure that all night shelters have adequate beds, clean surroundings, and sufficient blankets.
He also stressed that food must be provided to those staying at the shelters. He himself distributed blankets and food to the needy and inquired with people about their well-being.
Speaking to the media, the chief minister said North Indian states, including Uttar Pradesh, were currently experiencing an intense cold wave. He appealed to citizens with resources to come forward and help the needy during this harsh weather.
He added that bonfires have been arranged at 480 locations in Gorakhpur city and that more than 22,000 people were provided with blankets and woollen clothes here.
