All cases to be moved to EOW to centralise probe
LUCKNOW, June 22 -- The number of FIRs registered by aggrieved investors of real estate developer Ansal API, in the state capital, has now reached 217. Of these, 204 FIRs have already been transferred to the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) under the Lucknow Police Commissionerate.
The remaining FIRs are also likely to be transferred to the EOW by Saturday night for a consolidated investigation, deputy commissioner of police, south, Nipun Agarwal, said on Saturday.
The latest FIR, registered on June 19, 2025, at Sushant Golf City police station, accuses the company of encroaching on private land in Hasanpur Khevali, Sarojini Nagar.
According to the FIR, the complainant, Parikshit Bajpai, a resident of Gomti Nagar, alleged that on May 11, Ansal API's owner, Pranav Ansal, project head Rajesh Rao, and land officer Vinay Tiwari forcibly occupied his land (Gaata Nos. 48S, 103, 104, 105, and 106), which is legally recorded in his name, the FIR lodged on Jun 19, 2025, reads.
Bajpai submitted verified Khatauni records and a Lekhpal report to support his claim and further alleged that he was threatened by company representatives when he visited the site.
He also cited years of false assurances by the developer regarding land possession and documentation.
The FIR in this case has been filed under Sections 329(3), 352, and 351(3) of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), as well as provisions of the Land Mafia Act.
DCP Nipun Agarwal stated, "Out of the total 217 FIRs, 204 have already been transferred to the EOW under the crime branch, and the rest are being processed for transfer by tonight.
All cases will be investigated under the supervision of DCP, crime, as per the directives of the Lucknow Commissioner of Police."
The move to transfer these cases is seen as part of a broader push to centralise the investigation and fast-track action in the multi-crore land and property fraud cases involving Ansal API.
Sources in the police department revealed that till now, the investigation had made little progress.
However, the recent decision to route the cases through the EOW may pave the way for a structured and expedited probe.
"We are streamlining the investigation. After the transfer is complete, all documents, evidence, and witness statements will be consolidated to identify patterns and ensure legal accountability," said a senior police official associated with the crime wing.
Earlier this year on March 4, the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) had filed an FIR at Vibhuti Khand police station against the company over a multi-crore land scam. Just a day later, on March 5, the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) filed another FIR at Crossing Republic police station, followed by a separate complaint by the Bulandshahr-Khurja Development Authority (BDA).
All three development bodies accused Ansal API and its top officials of alleged land fraud, breach of agreement, and illegal encroachments.
Meanwhile, many investors who have either lodged the FIR or are still lodging it against the developer where various investors, some of whom paid up to 80% and above amounts of the total property cost, continue to wait for the police investigation and further complaints are being filed, alleging that despite repeated follow-ups, the developer has failed to hand over plots or complete necessary paperwork...
