Agra, Nov. 4 -- What looked like a routine gathering of senior citizens at the Police Lines in Aligarh on Monday had an unusual twist - 58 of those present were former history-sheeters who had not committed any crime in the past two to three decades. In a bold move, Aligarh SSP Neeraj Kumar Jadaun ordered the closure of history sheets for 130 such individuals, all above 70 years of age. "Police visits to the homes of these elderly history-sheeters often create awkward moments for their children and grandchildren, who have done no wrong," said SSP Jadaun. "We decided to close their history sheets, and 58 of them came forward to assure us that they would remain law-abiding and even assist police in their localities." Jadaun said he reviewed the district's list of around 2,500 history-sheeters and profiled them based on age and activity. "We found over 200 inactive history-sheeters above 70 years old. Of these, 130 were identified for closure," he said. Citing police regulations, the SSP explained that he is empowered to both open and close history sheets. "Some of these individuals are over 90 years old, with their last offences dating back to the 1950s or 60s. They have stayed away from crime for decades," he said. htc...
