Aligarh launches innovative 'fog vigil' to curb winter crime
Agra, Nov. 30 -- To counter the spike in crime during foggy winter nights, Aligarh Police has launched an innovative community policing initiative, forming Gram Suraksha Samitis with over 8,000 villagers - mainly defence and police pensioners, current and former pradhans, and local youth.
"It is usually seen that criminals try to take advantage of foggy nights, leading to a rise in thefts and house break-ins. Aligarh Police is prepared in advance to foil such attempts through our community policing plan titled 'Kohre Par Pehra' (Guard of Fog)," said Amrit Jain, Superintendent of Police (Rural), on Saturday.
The initiative has received strong support from villagers, with 886 Gram Suraksha Samitis already formed. Members are being trained at night and equipped with basic gear to keep vigil at village entry and exit points. They are also encouraged to set up their own alert systems during emergencies, Jain said.
Appealing for more villagers to join, SP (Rural) added that the effort is part of a broader strategy to strengthen community policing during the foggy winter months.During a training camp at Bakner, Nagaria Bijna village in Khair circle on Friday night, Jain led the team through the village, taking positions at key points and lighting an alav as residents gathered to discuss local issues....
