Alambagh double murder: Son learns of parents' killing through newspaper
LUCKNOW, July 5 -- The youngest son of an elderly couple who were stabbed to death in their Alambagh home here on Wednesday night, reportedly learnt of his parents' murder while reading a newspaper on his way to Lucknow.
Anant Ram, 73, and his wife Asha Devi, 71, were murdered at their home late Wednesday night by their estranged son-in-law Jagdeep. He was arrested shortly after the incident.
Anant Ram's son Rohan, who lives in another town, was called to Lucknow by a friend who told him that his father was unwell. "I stopped for tea after arriving. That's when I opened the newspaper and saw the headlines. I fainted on the spot. Local shopkeepers helped revive me," Rohan recalled.
Police said Jagdeep had arrived at the house late at night, claiming he wanted to meet his three-year-old son. However, he was allegedly drunk, and when refused entry, he began to argue with his estranged wife Poonam. Eyewitnesses said Jagdeep first assaulted Poonam, prompting her parents to intervene. At that point, he pulled out a knife from his bag and stabbed both repeatedly.
Postmortem reports confirmed 18 stab wounds on Anant Ram and 15 on Asha Devi, police said....
