Akhilesh meets seer, supports 'cow as 'Rashtra Mata' drive
Lucknow, March 13 -- Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav met Swami Avimukteshwaranand in Lucknow on Thursday to seek blessings and extend support to his drive to declare the cow as 'Rashtra Mata'.
After the meeting, Yadav said, "Today I received the blessings of the revered Shankaracharya. Receiving blessings from revered saints before starting any auspicious work or endeavour is unparalleled."
On the issue of serving cows, the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister stated, "We will continue to do whatever we can to serve Gaumata. During the Samajwadi Party government, we established Uttar Pradesh's first cow milk plant in Kannauj but this government closed the plant." Holding the central and state BJP governments responsible for the alleged cooking gas crisis in the state and the country, Yadav said, "People will have to build furnaces and make stoves in their homes. There is a shortage of electric appliances in the market."
Earlier on Wednesday, Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati concluded his four-day march in Lucknow, demanding that the cow be granted the status of 'Rashtra Mata'....
