LUCKNOW, April 30 -- Advocate Akhilesh Jaiswal was elected president of the Central Bar Association on Tuesday, securing 1,334 votes. He defeated his nearest rival, Rajesh Sharma Singh, who polled 996 votes. Avnish Dixit 'Honey' won the post of general secretary with 1,364 votes, defeating Vishnu Kumar Mishra by a significant margin of 569 votes. Mishra received 796 votes. For the post of senior vice-president, Pramod Kumar Pal emerged victorious with 550 votes. Ahtisham Jafar Urfi came second, securing 456 votes. The results for the posts of president, general secretary, and senior vice-president were announced today (Tuesday), following the annual elections of the Central Bar Association held in Lucknow on Monday, said chief election officer Umashankar Srivastava, adding counting of votes began at 9am. Counting of votes for other posts, including deputy vice-president, junior vice-president, joint secretary, treasurer, and executive committee members, is still underway and is expected to continue till May 3.
