Lucknow, Oct. 11 -- The All India Power Engineers Federation (AIPEF) has urged chief minister Yogi Adityanath to withdraw the decision to privatise Purvanchal and Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigams in light of the newly issued Draft Electricity (Amendment) Bill 2025. The draft, released by the Union power ministry, proposes opening power distribution to private players without abolishing public sector discoms. AIPEF chairman Shailendra Dubey said the draft contradicted UP's move to fully privatise 42 districts under the two power distribution companies, which would hand over complete control to private firms. "The bill allows public sector distribution companies to continue while letting private firms seek licenses using existing networks - a framework that differs sharply from total privatisation," he argued....
