GORAKHPUR, Aug. 24 -- Several advanced medical courses were approved during the 8th standing academic committee (SAC) meeting of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Gorakhpur, on Saturday. They included Doctorate of Medicine (DM) in neurology and in critical care medicine. The SAC meeting, held under standing academic committee's chairman Dr Ashoka Jahnavi Prasad, cleared nearly half a dozen new academic programmes aimed at strengthening medical education, training and research at the institute. Confirming it, Dr Aradhana Singh, media cell in charge of All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Gorakhpur, the newly sanctioned courses are DM in neurology, in pain medicine and in critical care medicine. In addition, Post-Doctoral Certificate Courses (PDCC) were approved in trauma anaesthesia, spine trauma, pelvic-acetabular surgery, and paediatric & adolescent gynaecology. A Post-Doctoral Fellowship (PDF) in maternal-fetal medicine was also sanctioned under the department of obstetrics & gynaecology. Further, Master of Surgery (MS) in trauma surgery, a PhD programme in nursing, and a BSc course in operation theatre technology have been introduced. The meeting was attended by AIIMS Gorakhpur's executive director Maj Gen (Dr) Vibha Dutta (Retd), along with eminent academicians, including Prof. Aarti Lalchandani, Prof VK Tiwari, Prof Rameshwar Nath Chaurasia and Prof Manindra Agrawal.
