LUCKNOW, Oct. 6 -- At the 13th state conference of the All India Democratic Women's Association (AIDWA), the newly formed executive committee elected Vandana Rai as president and Seema Katiyar as secretary. Madhu Garg, Saroj Kushwaha, and Neelam Tiwari were elected as vice presidents. Suman Singh was appointed treasurer, and Lalmani and Sudha Singh as joint secretaries. The 13th state conference of the Uttar Pradesh unit of the AIDWA, which has a presence in 26 states and a membership of over 11 million, concluded with the discussion on various political and social resolutions and the election of a new state committee. At Nehru Yuva Kendra in the Hussainabad area on Sunday, women representatives from 15 districts attended the state conference and discussed the problems of their respective areas. The issues that emerged prominently in the discussions included the problem of unemployment in villages, the recent disruption in the distribution of five kilograms of rations, rising inflation, and the cost of higher education. The unavailability of clean water in many areas or its proximity to homes was also highlighted. The conference passed a resolution against hate in politics. The Janwadi Samiti accused the current government of deliberately harassing various segments of the Muslim community. Another resolution strongly objected to the Uttar Pradesh government's school merger initiative, stating that this decision would have a detrimental impact on girls' education. The AIDWA expressed opposition to the privatisation of electricity. Another resolution expressed solidarity with the Palestinian people in international politics and demanded that the Indian government strongly oppose Israel.
