Ahead of Dev Deepawali, Kalindi Mahotsav brings fest of lights to Prayagraj
PRAYAGRAJ, Nov. 1 -- Ahead of the Dev Deepawali celebrations, Sangam city witnessed another festival of lights on the banks of the Yamuna on Friday.
The ancient Shri Maujgiri Ghat-recently rejuvenated under a Rs.1.2-crore redevelopment project-was illuminated with more than 51,000 earthen lamps during the "Prakash Mahakumbh" held as part of the Kalindi Mahotsav.
The sight of thousands of flickering diyas braving the strong breeze and reflecting off the Yamuna's gentle waves created a divine spectacle of light and devotion, drawing thousands of devotees and visitors despite the inclement weather.
Representatives from all 13 recognised akharas (ancient Hindu monastic orders) of the country, along with several judges and lawyers, were present at the event organised by the Shri Dattatreya Seva Samiti under the patronage of Shri Panch Dashnam Juna Akhara.
Justice Shekhar Yadav and Justice Praveen Giri of the Allahabad High Court inaugurated the Kalindi Mahotsav by lighting the ceremonial lamp alongside Mahant Shivanand of the Juna Akhara and other saints.
The inauguration was followed by a Bhajan Sandhya (devotional music evening) that filled the air with spiritual melodies. Among the prominent saints present were Shri Mahant Kanchan Giri Maharaj, Shri Mahant Girishanand, Mahant Atul Giri, Mahant Vikramanand, Mahant Sundar Giri, Shri Mahant Anandeswaranand Giri, and Mahant Shivanand.
