AGRA, April 6 -- An Agra-based transporter died in what police describe as a hit-and-run incident, shortly after publicly accusing Goods and Services Tax (GST) officials of harassment. His family has rejected the police account and demanded a thorough investigation. Asgar Ali, a transport business owner from Bhogipura, was allegedly stopped at Fatehpur Sikri on April 3 by a GST team. According to his family's complaint, officials seized his truck and took him into custody while asking for documents. The next day, his body was discovered near Godam Mall Ka Chabutara in Agra. "As far as the police are concerned, it is prima facie a case of hit and run. We have a video of accident site and have shared it with family of deceased transporter. Still we are open to investigation in case a complaint is lodged to police by the affected family members," said Gaurav Singh, assistant commissioner of police at Agra. The family has alleged that GST officials, including a woman officer, are responsible for Ali's death. This is not the first conflict between Ali and the GST department; they had a recorded dispute in 2025 as well. As of this report's filing, police had yet to register an FIR in the case....
