Agra conversion racket: Court grants police custody remand of four accused till August 1
AGRA, July 30 -- Out of the 10 accused involved in Agra conversion racket, who were presented before a court on Tuesday, four were sent to police custody remand for four days till August 1, while remaining six were sent to judicial custody on the court's order amidst tight security.
Braj Mohan Kushwaha, the chief prosecutor at the court of the chief judicial magistrate, said the accused were presented for hearing on Tuesday after completion of 10 days.
The counsel appearing for accused opposed the police custody remand for four of the accused namely Ayesha aka SB Krishna, Mohd Ali, Hasan Ali and Rehman Qureshi.
"Prosecution highlighted that there were more evidence to be gathered and as such four more days' police custody remand was sought. The court was convinced and allowed police custody remand for Ayesha aka SB Krishna, Mohd Ali, Hasan Ali and Rehman Qureshi till August 1," Kushwaha said.
In all, 14 accused have been arrested till date by Agra police for being involved in illegal religious conversion.
Their interrogation and investigation by Agra police revealed that the network run for conversion of innocent girls to Islam was run by Abdul Rehman and Ayesha both of whom had converted from Hindu to Islam.
These arrests have been made in regard to case registered at Sadar police station of Agra in March this year after two sisters, aged 33 and 18, from Agra went missing which led to Agra police's operation.The case was registered under section 87 (abduction of women to compel her for marriage), 111(3) (organised crime), 111(4) (member of organised crime syndicate), 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) of Bhartiya Nyayay Sabhita and Section 3(5) of the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, 2021. Sub-section 5 of this Act provides punishment for offence under section 3 which prohibits conversion from one religion to another religion by misrepresentation, force, fraud, undue influence, coercion and allurement.htc...
