Ageing LDA colonies to get modern makeover
LUCKNOW, April 14 -- The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has launched a major redevelopment drive targeting its nearly four-decade-old housing schemes. The overhaul forms part of the Uttar Pradesh Urban Redevelopment Policy-2026 and will tackle illegal occupancy, structural deterioration and encroachments.
Under the new policy, LDA plans to replace existing low-rise structures with modern high-rise apartments equipped with better infrastructure, amenities, and safety features.
The authority has assured that original allottees will receive accommodation in the redeveloped projects, ensuring continuity and improved living conditions.
LDA officials have been directed to prepare detailed redevelopment proposals, prioritising ageing residential clusters that now pose safety risks and reflect poor urban infrastructure.
In the first phase, LDA will redevelop multi-storey buildings constructed in 1988 on Wazir Hasan Road in Hazratganj, along with housing units in Paper Mill Colony and Sector-G of the Kanpur Road scheme.
Officials said the Wazir Hasan Road complex consists of four G+3 towers with 64 flats. While 60 flats have been registered, three registrations remain pending and one unit is unallotted. A recent survey found that several flats are under unauthorised occupation, while designated parking spaces and parks have been encroached upon, worsening living conditions.
Given the prime location of the Wazir Hasan Road scheme, officials believe redevelopment will significantly enhance both land use and residential standards.
The redevelopment plan will also extend to nearly 1,000 double-storey houses built in 1990 in Sector-G of the Kanpur Road scheme, where unauthorised occupation has become widespread.
LDA will further conduct surveys and structural assessments in Paper Mill Colony before finalising redevelopment proposals....
