After two murders, 2 shootings, 2 miscreants held in police encounter
Meerut, Nov. 11 -- Two youths, accused of carrying out a string of shootings, including the murder of a former Congress district president's nephew and an engineer, were injured in a police encounter on Sunday evening in Meerut district. Police said the accused, Aryan Sharma of Niwali village and his associate Adil, were cornered near Dudhwa forest on the Ahaida road, where they opened fire at the police team. Both sustained bullet injuries to their legs before being captured.
Superintendent of police Suraj Kumar Rai said that two country-made firearms, live cartridges, a car belonging to one of the victims, and several mobile phones were recovered from their possession. "Both accused were wanted in connection with two murders and two shooting incidents that took place within hours on Saturday night. They have been admitted to hospital under police custody," the SP said. According to investigators, the killing spree stemmed from an old enmity. On Saturday night, Shekhar Sharma alias Chintu (22) - nephew of former Congress district president Yogesh Sharma and resident of Niwali - was shot dead on the Niwara-Naurojpur road. Aryan, who is related to Shekhar's family, had reportedly held a grudge after being beaten by him twice in the past few months over a dispute during a wedding procession. Police said Aryan, along with his friend Adil, left home on Saturday evening with the intention of killing Shekhar, who worked as a factory supervisor in Kundli, Sonipat.
Before committing the murders, the duo allegedly shot and injured Pravesh, cousin of special public prosecutor Inderpal Gurjar, near Meetli-Basaud road around 9.30 pm. The attack occurred after a verbal spat over overtaking when Gurjar's family was returning from a wedding ritual in Pabla village. Pravesh sustained a bullet wound in the waist and was admitted to a hospital in Meerut.
Shortly after, in Ambedkar Nagar, they shot Prashant Singh, a Saharanpur resident, in the hand following an argument at an omelette stall. Both injured victims are recovering in hospital. Around midnight, police were alerted to a body found on the Niwara-Naurojpur Gurjar road. The deceased was identified as Shekhar Sharma, who had been shot in the chest while returning from his factory shift.
Later that night, another body was discovered near the Gufa temple on the Delhi-Saharanpur National Highway. The victim, engineer Anuj Nain (35) of village Naurojpur Gurjar, had been shot in the neck. Multiple CCTV camera showed the same two men on a motorcycle at all four crime scenes, confirming the involvement of Aryan and Adil. Police teams were deployed across the district, leading to their encounter and arrest on Sunday evening....
