LUCKNOW, Nov. 17 -- Former champions Uttar Pradesh had to face frustration even after managing early success in their Elite Group A Ranji Trophy match against hosts Tamil Nadu at Coimbatore on Sunday. After reducing the hosts to 4/71, Uttar Pradesh bowlers failed to capitalise on the situation further allowing TN to finish the Day One of their crucial four-day encounter at 282/5 with two batters Baba Indrajith and Andre Siddarth hitting sparkling centuries. Uttar Pradesh skipper Delhi-boy Karan Sharma used as many as seven bowlers, including himself and debutant Kartik Yadav, but it was not much of a help as Indrajith and Siddarth kept them at bay and took control in their hands. In fact, it was a good toss to lose for Uttar Pradesh at the Sri Ramakrishna College of Arts and Science Ground where the 22-yard strip with a hint of green grass turned out to be quite helpful to pacers Aaquib Khan and Kunal Tyagi in the beginning as the two bowled well to leave Tamil Nadu struggling at 3/20 in 12.1 overs. Tyagi forced opener B Sachin (2) to edge a regulation catch to keeper Aryan Juyal in the eighth over and then Khan compelled keeper-batter Narayan Jagadeesan (8) for a straight catch to Madhav Kushik at the slips in the following over before Aaquib removed Pradosh Ranjan Paul (2), who was caught by Abhishek Goswami also in the slips. With three quick wickets early in the game kept Uttar Pradesh bowlers motivated for more sincere efforts, but it turned out to be a tough time for them when the game progressed as a steady batter Indrajith put his best foot forward. After getting retired hurt, he again returned and smashed a century with Andre Siddarth in a stand of 221 to fight back. Indrajith's unbeaten 128, which came off 157 balls with the help of eight boundaries and five sixes, turned out to be his 17th first-class hundred in 88th matches so far. Both Indrajith and Siddrath showed great determination and played their knocks with patience. Siddarth was caught by Shivam Mavi off Kunal Tyagi on the last ball of the day but his 205-ball 121, which contained 12 hits to the fence, was good enough to keep Tamil Nadu enjoying the domination. It was the second first-class century for 19-year-old Siddharth in his 14th match. Young spinner Kartik Yadav, who has taken 29 wickets in three matches of the CK Nayudu Trophy this season, took 1/65 in his debut match....
