After early fog, Sun to warm up city today; severe cold on Monday likely
LUCKNOW, Jan. 11 -- The bright sunshine which people experienced on Saturday here in Lucknow and other areas will not last long as dense fog and severe cold may return from Monday, a Met official said.
The rise in maximum temperature is due to Western Disturbances that kept a check on the cold wave. However, as that influence weakens and the effect of Northwesterly winds increases again, temperatures are expected to drop by 2-3degC from January 12.
"There is a possibility of dense fog in some areas of the Terai region, while light to moderate fog is expected in other places early on Sunday morning. The fog will dissipate as the day progresses, and there will be sunshine during the day," said Atul Kumar Singh, a senior scientist at Lucknow met office.
On Saturday, Azamgar remained the coldest district in UP where the minimum temperature was 3.7 degrees, Ayodhya 4, Fursatganj 4.2, Bareilly and Kanpur City 4.6 degrees.
There has been a significant increase in day temperatures by an average of 3 to 6degC. Maximum temperatures in most districts were 20 degrees Celsius and above due to bright sunshine.
Maximum and minimum temperatures in Lucknow were 22.8 and 6.6 degrees Celsius, respectively. The forecast for Sunday is shallow fog/mist during morning hours and clear sky later. The day and night temperature will be around 22 and 10 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Kanpur City recorded the highest day temperature in the state at 23.6 degrees. Barabanki 23.5 degrees, Varanasi BHU 23.4 degrees, Prayagraj 23.2 degrees Celsius.
Existing conditions caused the fog layer to dissipate early in the morning, resulting in a significant increase in daytime temperatures by an average of 3 to 6degC in most parts of the state, except for a few isolated places in the eastern plains.
Furthermore, due to the changes in wind speed and direction caused by the current Western Disturbance, dry weather and a gradual decrease in fog density are expected in the state.
Minimum temperatures are likely to rise by 2 to 3degC during the next 24 hours, further improving the cold conditions....
