After crackdown, 'not a single beggar spotted at places visited'
LUCKNOW, May 21 -- Anti-social elements who attacked the rescue team of the district administration engaged in the crackdown on beggary on Monday evening has given further impetus to officials to eliminate the crime syndicate involved in pushing children into beggary.
District magistrate Visakh G on Tuesday inspected ITMS and Safe City Control Room and observed the live feed of Bangla Bazar, Arjunganj, Telibagh and other intersections and took stock of the action being taken by the monitoring teams.
The district magistrate directed that the persons encouraging child beggary should be identified through ITMS and action should be ensured against them by informing the teams deployed in the field.
A joint team of district officials visited 19 intersections of the district on Tuesday. An official said that it was surprising that not a single beggar was spotted at any intersection they visited. They were of the view that this must be a temporary pause.
Bangla Bazar crossing is a big hub of beggars. Many families live in slum areas. These people themselves beg and also make the children beg. Two teams of the task force reached Bangla Bazar to rescue the people involved in begging. The team rescued five child beggars and took them to Women's Social Welfare Office on Cantt Road.
The other team was trying to rescue other people. Krishna, son of Aarti, who lives in the slum, was also among the rescued children. Officials alleged that she gathered the people of the colony. On her call a number of people assembled there with sticks. According to eyewitnesses, those people attacked Child Line officer Suryakant.
District magistrate Vishak G said, "Strict action will be taken against those accused of organising and carrying out an attack on the rescue team. The Bangla Bazaar Police Station in-charge has been given the responsibility of identifying them. The injured employee was taken to hospital."...
