After cops raise concern, junctions' design flaws up for review today
LUCKNOW, Jan. 13 -- After being red-flagged by the city traffic police, design flaws at key intersections on the under-construction Green Corridor route are likely to be reviewed at a high-level meeting of Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) on Tuesday.
The meeting has been convened by LDA vice-chairman Prathamesh Kumar. Senior officials from Lucknow Metro, traffic police department and LDA's engineering wing are expected to attend. Officials are expected to examine specific junction-related issues that, if left uncorrected, could create long-term traffic bottlenecks once the Corridor becomes fully operational.
On January 8, HT published a report on the traffic police red-flagging at least three intersections, whose broad roundabouts and faulty geometry could create serious traffic congestion and safety risks. Officials said a recent joint inspection by the traffic police and LDA engineers exposed serious planning lapses despite the project nearing completion.
Previously, DCP (Traffic) Kamlesh Dixit had confirmed the findings and said the current designs could worsen congestion. "During the joint inspection, we pointed out that the design of certain intersections under the Green Corridor would lead to congestion in the future," Dixit said.
Taking a tough stand on encroachments and degradation of civic assets, civic chief Gaurav Kumar on Monday directed officials to ensure immediate protection of municipal properties and restore ponds in the city.
Chairing a review meeting of Lucknow Municipal Corporation's property department on Monday, Kumar ordered time-bound action to fence vacant municipal land, remove encroachments and prevent their recurrence. He warned officials against laxity and said any delay in securing LMC properties would not be tolerated....
