PRAYAGRAJ, Nov. 28 -- Advocates staged a protest in front of the Dhoomanganj police station on Thursday for approximately six hours. They accused the SHO of misbehaving and threatening them with his service pistol. The advocates demanded the SHO's suspension. Meanwhile, DCP (City) has termed the allegations of threats with a pistol baseless. He has formed a three-member committee led by the ADCP and directed it to submit an investigation report on the matter as soon as possible. High court lawyer Divya Prakash, a resident of Pritam Nagar, stated that he had Rs 28,85,427 deposited in his account at the ICICI Bank branch in TP Nagar. However, on Wednesday evening, he received a message on his mobile phone mentioning that Rs 16,90,945 had been deducted. He alleged that the bank manager transferred the money without his knowledge. Prakash and other fellow lawyers arrived at the bank on Thursday afternoon, but the manager was not present. The lawyers created a ruckus and called 112 to complain. After speaking with the SHO of Dhoomanganj police station, they went to the police station. They alleged that the SHO spoke rudely and threatened them with a pistol. Upon learning of this, dozens of lawyers gathered and staged a sit-in protest on the Prayagraj-Kanpur road in front of the Dhoomanganj police station which disrupted traffic movement. Police from several nearby police stations were called in anticipation of nuisance. DCP (city) Manish Kumar Shandilya and ADCP (city) Vijay Anand also arrived to intervene. However, the lawyers remained adamant on their demand for the immediate suspension of the SHO and the filing of a case against the bank manager. After the blockade lasted for approximately six hours, the DCP formed a three-member team consisting of an ADCP and two ACPs to conduct an investigation after which the protest came to an end. According to the district excise department, Prakash owned a licensed model shop in Pritam Nagar, Kanhaipur. However, due to non-collection of revenue as per regulations in the fourth quarter of the financial year 2021-22, Rs 22,40,945 remained outstanding. District excise officer Sushil Kumar Mishra stated that on July 3, 2022, a security deposit of Rs 5.5 lakh was deposited through the ICICI Bank branch in TP Nagar, but Rs 16,90,945 remained outstanding. On July 12, 2022, a notice was issued to Prakash to deposit the outstanding amount. When the notice was not accepted, it was pasted at his residence. Rs 16,90,945 was deposited as dues to the excise department through a drop deposit, he added. DCP (city) Manish Kumar Shandilya said that the lawyers had accused the SHO of misbehaving. However, an investigation of the CCTV footage has revealed that the allegation of threatening with a government pistol is false....
