Advocates continue protest on second day, block road
PRAYAGRAJ, June 13 -- After the demolition of 151 chambers of advocates by Prayaraj Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Wednesday morning, advocates continued to stage protests outside the collectorate and district court premises by blocking the road and setting the debris of demolished chambers on fire on Thursday. The advocates also raised slogans against the district administration.
Lawyers stopped the movement of vehicles by putting up barricades on the road in front of the collectorate. Complaints of misbehavior with those passing through the road were also received.
In view of tension in the area due to barricading and setting the debris on fire by agitated lawyers, the police stopped traffic movement towards collectorate, causing inconvenience to commuters heading towards Stanley Road and Katra.
After the talks between the District Advocates Association and the administration on Wednesday evening, it seemed that the situation in front of the Collectorate would be normal on Thursday. As per commitment by officials during the meeting, the Municipal Corporation had removed the debris from the road late on Wednesday night.
As per reports, till 9.30 am, the situation on the road outside collectorate was completely normal. However, after the arrival of advocates, barricades were placed on the road stopping movement of vehicles.
In view of protests of lawyers gaining momentum, heavy deployment of security forces was done. Many angry lawyers said that the Municipal Corporation demolished the chambers illegally....
