Advocate escapes bid on life
PRAYAGRAJ, Aug. 22 -- Two motorcycle-borne miscreants allegedly attempted to shoot an advocate in Jogapur area on Thursday evening but missed, police said. The advocate escaped unhurt while passersby chased the assailants, forcing them to flee, they added.
The victim was identified as Sarvjeet Singh, a resident of Delhupur in Pratapgarh, who lives in Jogapur.
As per reports, two masked youths intercepted him around 7pm when he was returning home. One of them opened fire as Singh tried to run, but the bullet missed the target. Singh pushed back the attackers as locals rushed in, after which the duo fled.
Soon after, a large number of advocates, including Junior Bar Association general secretary Vivek Tripathi, gathered and staged a protest demanding the attackers' arrest.
On receiving information, police officials, including Bhangwa Chungi outpost in-charge Ankit Srivastava, Nagar Kotwali SHO Neeraj Yadav, and CO (city) Prashant Raj, reached the spot and began a search operation.
Officials said the CCTV footage from the area, which captured the incident, was being scanned to identify the culprits....
