Adulterated food products worth Rs.3.67 lakh seized in state capital
LUCKNOW, Oct. 1 -- As the festive season approaches, the Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) department officials on Tuesday carried out raids at various food establishments in Lucknow and seized adulterated products worth around Rs 3.67 lakh from multiple locations.
At Kisan India Plus in Kakori, FSDA authorities confiscated 1,328-litre of mustard oil valued at over Rs 2.39 lakh along with 28-litre rice bran oil worth Rs 3,640.
At Best Price (Walmart India Pvt Ltd), located in Sushant Golf City, officials seized 110-litre multi-source edible oil and 910 kg of organic besan (gram flour) valued at Rs 38,295 and Rs 42,817 respectively.
Shiv Traders at Eveready Chauraha was found storing 330-litre refined rice bran oil with an estimated value of Rs 44,000. Additional items seized from other retailers included refined oils, ghee and besan. Inspections were also carried out at Reliance Retail Ltd in Indira Nagar, Milkas Dairy & Sweet in Udaiganj and other locations where suspected products like khoya and paneer were seized.
During the drive, Rukmini Cold Storage at Kursi Road was inspected following complaints regarding substandard potatoes. In total, 13 food samples were collected and sent to laboratory for testing. Based on the test results, legal proceedings will be initiated under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
Earlier in the day, a high-level district committee meeting was convened by the additional district magistrate (civil supplies) to review the status of food safety measures in the city.
During the meeting, a detailed report on the action taken by the department in 2025-26 fiscal was presented to the ADM (civil supplies). Committee members were also given a comprehensive briefing on various schemes and initiatives being implemented by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), especially those under the "Eat Right India" campaign.
The ADM issued strict instructions that all food-related businesses in Lucknow - including bakeries, sweet shops, restaurants, cafes and hotels - must obtain certification under the FSSAI's "Eat Right" initiative. These establishments are required not only to meet the prescribed safety and hygiene standards but also to display the certificate prominently on their premises.
In addition, officers from various departments, including excise, supply, dairy development and drug control, were directed to ensure 100% licensing or registration of all food operators under their respective jurisdictions.
These include government liquor stores, fair price (ration) shops, Anganwadi centres, medical stores, dairy vendors, and wholesale traders operating in local mandis.
The ADM emphasised the need for a coordinated enforcement drive to identify and destroy substandard or adulterated food products immediately.
