Admin halts permits for Adi Kailash Yatra
Pithoragarh, July 10 -- In view of the monsoon rains and the increasing threat of landslides along the Dharchula-Lipulekh route, the Pithoragarh administration has ceased issuing inner line permits for pilgrims travelling to the sacred Adi Kailash temple, officials aware of the matter said on Wednesday.
District magistrate Vinod Goswami said, "With the onset of advanced monsoon, the road to Gunji camp, a key point in the yatra, is frequently getting blocked due to landslides. This step has been taken purely to ensure the safety of pilgrims." He confirmed that inner line permits will resume only after September 15, once the monsoon recedes.
Dharchula sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Jitendra Verma said, "Since the yatra opened on May 30, over 23,532 pilgrims from across the country have undertaken the pilgrimage to Adi Kailash and Om Parvat. Despite the steady pilgrim flow, we've decided to halt the permits temporarily from Wednesday based on continuous warnings from the disaster management department."...
