LUCKNOW, April 25 -- Sixth seed Aditya Tinjain of Punjab pulled off a masterclass to dethrone top seed Mayank Sharma of Delhi in the men's singles final of the AITA Men's Rs 1 Lakh Tennis Tournament, at the Unnad Tennis Academy here on Friday. Tinjain dominated with precise baseline play and unerring serves, clinching a 6-4, 6-4 victory. The 22-year-old's resilience shone through, breaking Sharma's rhythm in crucial games and silencing the favored Delhi player's aggressive returns. The doubles final delivered even more fireworks. Mayank Sharma bounced back partnering with UP's Eklavya Singh, edging out Maharashtra's Parth Patil and Aditya Tinjain 6-3, 6-4. The duo's synergy-Sharma's net volleys syncing with Singh's powerful groundstrokes-proved decisive, sealing the title in straight sets. Patil and Tinjain fought valiantly but couldn't counter the pressure in key breaks. Host city Lucknow made a spectacular start on the opening day of the UP State Sub-Junior, Cadet, and Junior Karate Championship-2026, at the Lalji Tandon Multipurpose Hall within the Chowk Stadium by winning three gold medals on Thursday. For the hosts, the day was highlighted by stellar performances from Priyanka Singh and Shreshth Srivastava, alongside Lucknow securing the top spot in the junior boys' team Kata category. Gautam Buddha Nagar won two gold medals, while Muzaffarnagar, Farrukhabad, Varanasi, Kaushambi, and Agra each claimed one gold medal. Divya from Gautam Buddha Nagar won the gold medal in the cadet girls' Kumite category (14-15 years, under 54 kg). Palak Gupta from Ballia secured the silver medal, while Arya Maurya from Varanasi and Badira from Prayagraj were awarded bronze medals. In the junior girls' individual Kata category (16-17 years), Priyanka Singh from Lucknow outperformed all competitors to win the gold medal. In this same category, Sheetal Singh from Varanasi claimed the silver medal, while Alisha Singh from Lucknow and Aishani Sharma from Gautam Buddha Nagar received bronze medals. Following the conclusion of the three rounds IN THE UP State Under-7 Open Chess Championship in Sitapur on Friday, Agastya Gupta of Lucknow, Shiva Mishra of Bareilly, and Vedansh Tomar and Atharva Sharma of Gautam Buddha Nagar hold a joint lead with three points each.
