Pithoragarh, Oct. 1 -- For the first time, Uttarakhand will host a high-altitude marathon around Adi Kailash, with the event scheduled for November 2 in the Dharchula subdivision of Pithoragarh district. The 'Adi Kailash Parikrama Run,' organised by the state tourism department, is being promoted as a major initiative to boost pilgrimage and adventure tourism in the region. According to officials, the marathon will be held at altitudes ranging between 10,500 and 14,500 feet in the Himalayan terrain. The routes will cover Jolingkong (14,500 ft), Kalapani (11,500 ft), and Gunji (10,500 ft), locations revered as part of the Adi Kailash pilgrimage circuit. District tourism officer Kirti Chand Arya, who recently inspected the arrangements at Gunji, said the run will feature five categories of distances-60 km, 42 km, 21 km, 10 km, and 5 km. "The longest 60 km category will begin from Jolingkong, covering Kuti and Kalapani, before concluding at Gunji. This will be an open event for all athletes. The other categories will allow wider participation, including professional and amateur runners," Arya said....
