Action plan for reuse of treated domestic waste water in Kashi
VARANASI, June 15 -- The National Mission for Clean Ganga under the Jal Shakti Ministry, in collaboration with the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW) and the Varanasi Municipal Corporation, is jointly working on an action plan to reuse treated domestic wastewater. The initiative aims to curb water wastage and promote sustainable water management practices.
A meeting to draft the preliminary outline of the action plan was held on Friday between officials of the Varanasi Municipal Corporation and the Council on Energy, Environment and Water. Nitin Bassi, senior programme leader at the council on energy, environment and water, gave a presentation highlighting the significance of the action plan. He stated that once implemented, the project will help curb the misuse of clean water by promoting the use of treated water for purposes such as construction, gardening, firefighting, road and divider cleaning, and vehicle washing.
Municipal commissioner Akshat Verma directed representatives of the council on energy, environment and water to carry out a thorough on-ground assessment of the city, including the sewer treatment plants, water treatment facilities, fire stations, ponds and tanks, as well as the Varuna and Assi rivers, to ensure smooth implementation of the project. He also instructed the UP Jal Nigam and the Jalkal department to extend full cooperation to the municipal corporation.
Additional municipal commissioner Vinod Kumar Gupta, chief engineer Moinuddin, municipal health officer Dr Surendra Kumar Chaudhary, joint municipal commissioner Krishnachandra, secretary Jalkal OP Singh, executive engineer (Alok) Ajay Kumar Saxena, project officer DUDA Nidhi Vajpayee and zonal sanitation officer Ravichandra Niranjan were present in the meeting....
