LUCKNOW, Dec. 25 -- The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Corruption Organisation (ACO) on Wednesday carried out trap operations at two different locations, arresting two government officials while they were allegedly accepting bribes. In the first operation, the ACO's Meerut unit arrested an inspector of the non-gazetted police cadre for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.4 lakh in exchange for removing a complainant's name from an investigation. The action followed a complaint lodged by Lokesh Baisla, a resident of Gothra village in Baghpat district. The accused, identified as Mahendra Singh, currently posted as in-charge of the District Crime Records Bureau (DCRB) in Hapur, was caught red-handed while allegedly accepting the bribe near Nand Vihar Gate on Rohta Road in the Kanker Khera police station area of Meerut district. He is a resident of Ramraj village in Muzaffarnagar. Legal proceedings have been initiated against him. In a separate operation, the ACO's Banda unit arrested a revenue official in Mahoba district for allegedly demanding a bribe to facilitate recovery in an accident-related case.
