LUCKNOW, June 7 -- : The accused in the abduction and rape of a toddler visited the Alambagh Metro Station two to three times on the night of the incident, observing the surroundings, police officials familiar with the case said, citing CCTV footage. The accused was identified as Deepak Verma alias Nanhu, 24, according to the police. The incident took place in an area surrounded by three police outposts, including a pink booth designated for women's safety, located just 300 metres from the crime scene where the girl was sleeping with her mother. Despite this, the accused, Deepak, managed to carry out the horrific assault and escape. "Once he was certain that the girl's parents were in deep sleep, he abducted the girl, committed the rape, and fled toward the service road. Showing no fear after the crime, Deepak roamed around Alambagh and the nearby areas on his scooter for about two- and-a-half hours. The entire act was captured on CCTV footage," said a police officer. CCTV footage related to the crime surfaced after an encounter, showing the accused carrying the girl in his arms before assaulting her near an elevator. A 3.55-second video clip of the incident shows the accused arriving at the Alambagh Metro Station, pressing the button of an elevator, crossing the road to pick up the girl, and then carrying her back while running. He is seen placing her near the elevator before assaulting her and fleeing the scene. Police analysis of the video suggests that the accused had pre-targeted the victim, indicating a planned attack, officials privy to the case said. "The condition of the girl is stable now and she is scheduled to undergo surgery today," Lucknow's deputy commissioner of police (Central) Ashish Srivastava said....
