Accused arrested in encounter with police
LUCKNOW, April 30 -- A joint team of the Crime Branch and Bakshi Ka Talab (BKT) Police on Tuesday evening nabbed a history-sheeter involved in the recent loot of an elderly farmer in the BKT area.
The arrest followed an encounter near an underpass in Mampur Bana village, during which the accused opened fire on the police.
One of the accused, Sachin Nair (38), a resident of Hazratganj, was shot in the leg during the retaliatory firing and is currently admitted to hospital.
His accomplice, also a Lucknow resident with a long criminal record, managed to escape on a motorcycle and remains at large.
Deputy commissioner of police (North) Gopal Krishna Choudhary said the operation was launched based on inputs from informants. "While conducting a check in the area, the suspects were spotted. They opened fire on the police team, prompting a retaliatory firing by police checking team," he stated.
A manhunt is currently underway to trace and arrest the second accused....
