Varanasi, June 9 -- A person accused in a loot and SC/ST Act case, along with his two associates, was arrested for organising a procession on Friday night that led to a traffic jam in the Teliyabagh area, police said. According to police, a video of the sloganeering and traffic disruption went viral on social media. Following this, a police team arrested Abid Sheikh, a resident of Rania Mahal, Teliyabagh. His associates, Javed Ahmed and Arman Sheikh, also residents of Teliyabagh, were arrested. Police have seized two cars involved in the procession. Meanwhile, the in-charge of the Teliyabagh outpost, Shivam Srivastava, has been suspended by DCP Kashi Zone on grounds of negligence. It may be noted that a case had earlier been registered at Chetganj police station on December 15, 2024, against Abid Sheikh and three of his friends, based on a complaint by Ashish Kannaujia, a resident of Rania Mahal. Ashish alleged that Abid and his associates attacked him, looted Rs 7,700, hurled caste-based slurs at him, and threatened to kill him. Abid was arrested and sent to jail on May 29 by Chetganj police.
