ABVP, NSUI spar over results of student polls
Dehradun, Sept. 29 -- Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) claimed victory in 58 student union president posts as the results of elections held across 96 colleges were announced, while the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) said it won 32 president posts and rejected the ABVP's claim. The student body elections were held in the state on Saturday
At DAV PG College in Dehradun, ABVP's Rishabh Malhotra won the president's post. At Kumaon's largest higher educational institution, Moti Ram Baburam Govt Post Graduate College in Haldwani, ABVP's Abhishek Goswami won the president's post.
"In the student union elections held in Uttarakhand, ABVP unfurled the saffron flag of victory on a total of 332 posts, including 58 student union presidents, 52 vice presidents, 47 general secretaries, 51 treasurers, 50 joint secretaries, 62 university representatives, and 6 cultural secretaries," the Uttarakhand ABVP said in a Facebook post.
Vikas Negi, Uttarakhand NSUI president, said, "I reject ABVP's claim of winning 58 posts. It is a false claim. Out of 96 colleges across the state, we have won 32 president posts, while Independents have secured 18."
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said, "The resounding victory of ABVP in the student union elections held in various colleges across the state makes it clear that the youth of Uttarakhand is steadfast on the path of nationalism. This is not just an electoral victory, but a befitting reply to the conspiring forces driven by divisive thinking. Heartiest congratulations and best wishes to all the victorious ABVP candidates. The youth have once again demonstrated their unwavering faith in nationalist ideology, protection of student interests, and organisational strength. I have full confidence that our youth will stand at the forefront in strengthening Uttarakhand while upholding moral values."
Addressing a press conference on Sunday, Dhami said the ABVP registered an emphatic win across the state. "ABVP works with the spirit of nationalism and nation-building, bringing students and teachers together as one family. It has played a role in every major campaign in the country. I congratulate them on this victory," he said.
Dhami added that the outcome had infused new enthusiasm among the youth, especially at a time when "certain elements tried to mislead student movements by raising anti-national slogans and opposing Sanatan values."
He said the recruitment process had been made transparent in the last four years, with 25,000 recruitments taking place during this period. "There was a time when scandals like the Patwari recruitment scam shook the state. We have sent more than 100 members of the copying mafia to jail, released a recruitment calendar in students' interest, and ensured more hirings in the past four years than in the first two decades after the state's formation," he said.
Violence broke out on Saturday during the student union elections at MBPG College in Haridwar as rival student groups clashed, hurled stones, and allegedly misbehaved with police personnel....
