Absconding since 2016, cow smuggler with Rs.25K reward held after encounter
AGRA, Nov. 9 -- A cow smuggling accused, absconding since 2016 and carrying a reward of Rs.25,000, was arrested after being shot in both legs during an encounter with Mathura police, near the interstate border with Haryana late Friday night.
Ajay Kaushal, in-charge of Kosi Kalan police station, informed that the accused has been identified as Siraj (32), a resident of Ali Mev in Palwal district of Haryana. He had been wanted in cow smuggling cases since 2016 and had been evading arrest despite repeated efforts to apprehend him.
"On Friday night, information was received about the movement of a cow smuggling accused near the Haryana-Uttar Pradesh border. When the police intercepted him, the accused opened fire on the team. In self-defence, the police retaliated, during which the accused sustained bullet injuries in both legs," stated Kaushal.
"Police recovered an illegal firearm and a stolen motorcycle from his possession. A case was registered against him under sections 3, 5, and 8 of the Cow Slaughter Act, and he was carrying a reward of Rs.25,000," stated Kaushal.
The injured accused was first given medical aid at the community health centre in Kosi Kalan and later admitted to the district hospital in Mathura.
Siraj has around half a dozen cases registered against him at the Kosi Kalan police station in Mathura, in addition to ten cases in Haryana's Palwal district....
