Abhishek and Shubman are talented players: Yuvraj Singh
LUCKNOW, March 3 -- Indian cricket legend and three-time World Cup winner Yuvraj Singh on Monday said that cricketers like Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma have immense talent, and they shouldn't be judged on the basis of their performances in just one or two matches.
"Both Gill and Sharma are talented enough to change the complexion of the game at any moment in a match and I feel they should not be judged on the basis of their performances in just one or two matches," said Singh on the sideline of an event where he distributed 250 cricket kits to the state's budding players as part of DP World's Beyond Boundaries initiative.
This special container pavilion features a portrait of Sachin Tendulkar and a beautiful painting of Lucknow's historic Bada Imambara. Starting the conversation, he said, "Since I'm in Uttar Pradesh, I speak in Hindi."
Citing an example from his own career, he explained that when he was struggling, he sought advice from Sachin Tendulkar, which helped him understand things. "Every player needs a mentor who can guide them on the path to improvement," he said. Praising the fighting spirit of Uttar Pradesh cricketers, Yuvraj said that at one time, despite the lack of proper facilities, five players from the state played for India. Referring to Jammu and Kashmir, he said that despite the lack of equipment and supplies, and players from there are now winning the Ranji Trophy.
He said that many children give up their dreams due to lack of equipment. It is a great thing to make a child's dream come true. Singh also gave cricket tips to the children. He batted with youngsters and offered practice catching and fielding to them. He advised the players to never stand loosely on the field. "They should be mentally prepared for every ball. The correct batting stance and bowling line-length are the keys to success," he added.
On this occasion, UPCA's secretary, Prem Manohar Gupta stated that currently, three players from Uttar Pradesh including Kuldeep Yadav, Rinku Singh, and Dhruv Jurail are shining at the international level. Also, Prashant Veer's recent selection in the IPL is a testament to the growing infrastructure and talent in the state.
However, Hemant Kumar Ruia, country manager, DP World, said: "Access remains one of the biggest barriers for aspiring cricketers. At DP World, we believe opportunity should not be limited by infrastructure. We take pride in launching Beyond Boundaries in Lucknow together with the ICC, helping expand community access to cricket by combining facilities, equipment and strong local partnerships to create pathways for young talent to thrive."...
