PRAYAGRAJ, April 9 -- The abandoned body of a newborn was found mauled by stray dogs in Khattka village of Kaushambi district, police said on Wednesday. The incident occurred under the Kokhraj police station area. According to officials, the incident came to light on Tuesday afternoon when village watchman Ashok Kumar noticed stray dogs dragging the infant's body behind a house. Local children tried to chase the dogs away by throwing stones, and alerted others. The watchman reached the spot and, with the help of villagers, drove the dogs away. Police were informed and reached the scene to conduct a preliminary investigation. Officials said the body has been sent for post-mortem examination. SHO CB Maurya said an FIR has been registered against unidentified persons based on a complaint filed by the watchman. He added that an investigation is underway and nearby CCTV footage is being examined to identify those responsible.
