Abandoned elderly woman identified, family under probe
Ayodhya, July 31 -- An elderly woman who was found abandoned on the roadside in Ayodhya a few days ago has been identified as Bhagwati, a resident of Nagwa village under Nawabganj police station in Gonda district.
Police had admitted the ailing woman to Rajarshi Dashrath Medical College, where she passed away during treatment.
According to Ayodhya SSP Gaurav Grover, Bhagwati, who was suffering from cancer, had been deserted by her family. On the intervening night of July 23 and 24, two women and a man from her family brought her in an e-rickshaw and left her near the Darshan Nagar outpost area of Kishundaspur. She was found in critical condition the next morning and was hospitalised, but could not survive.
Following the incident, Ayodhya police formed four teams to establish her identity. Social media, posters, and pamphlets were used in the identification process, which eventually led to her being recognised.
The investigation revealed that Bhagwati's son-who reportedly struggles with substance addiction-along with his wife, was involved in abandoning her. Another woman, seen in CCTV footage during the incident, is known to the family, the SSP said.HTC...
