LUCKNOW, Aug. 20 -- Sparkling half centuries by opener Aaradhya Yadav and Mohd Saif helped local outfits Lucknow Falcons notch up their maiden win the third season of the UPTwenty20 League, outplaying defending champions Meerut Mavericks by five wickets, at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium here on Tuesday. Yadav smacked 62 in 51 balls with the help of six boundaries and two sixes, whereas saif struck 33-ball 55 with the help of seven boundaries and two sixes as Lucknow Falcons romped home in 18.3 overs, losing five wickets. Though spinner Yash Garg got the two openers Samarth Singh (1) and Priyam Garg (4) in his first over with the scoreboard reading just six, Yadav and Saif stitched together 95 runs for the third wicket to take the game away from Meerut Mavericks. Earlier, Meerut Mavericks batters struggled on the red soil turf before making 150/8 while batting first after winning the toss. Swastik Chikara (33, 24b, 7x4), Madhav Kaushik (25, 24b, 1x4, 2x6), Rinku Singh (23, 19b, 3x4), Zeeshan Ansari (22, 16b, 2x4, 1x6) and Yash Garg (22, 18b, 3x4) were the key run getters. Earlier in the first game of the day, Kashi Rudras defeated Kanpur Superstars by 24 runs even though Adarsh Singh struck a fine unbeaten century for the losing side. This was Kanpur's second consecutive defeat in as many matches. The hero of this match was Kashi's batsman Abhishek Goswami, who played a brilliant innings of 84 runs, to help the side post a challenging 201/3. While chasing the target, Kanpur Superstars had a bad start with opener S Singh returning to the pavilion without scoring. Adarsh Singh and captain Sameer Rizvi (25 runs, 4 fours) tried to handle the innings, but in vain. Adarsh remained unbeaten on 100 (59b, 9x4, 5x6) as Kanpur Superstars could score 177/8.
