A sea of women marches through Lucknow heat
Lucknow, April 22 -- Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday led the 'Jan Akrosh Mahila Padyatra' in the state capital, protesting what the BJP termed as opposition obstruction to the Nari Shakti Vandan Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha recently. A large number of women, along with both deputy chief ministers and NDA leaders, joined the march.
Hundreds of women gathered outside the chief minister's residence at 5, KD Marg from early morning, many holding placards and Tricolour as they stood under the harsh sun. The stretch from the main gate to the residence was packed, with a stage set up where leaders addressed the crowd.
At around 9.30am, as Adityanath stepped out, slogans filled the air, energising the gathering.
Soon after, he signalled the start of the padyatra. A heavy police presence escorted the march.
The chief minister walked at the front, flanked by deputy CMs Brajesh Pathak and Keshav Prasad Maurya, along with state BJP president Pankaj Chaudhary.
Ministers and party leaders followed, with women participants raising slogans against the Congress and the Samajwadi Party.
Several senior leaders, including Om Prakash Rajbhar, Arun Singh, Ashish Patel and other BJP MLAs, were present. Among women leaders seen in the march were mayor Sushma Kharakwal, Rita Bahuguna Joshi, Baby Rani Maurya, Gulab Devi, Geeta Shakya, Aparna Yadav and others.
As the procession moved through Civil Hospital and towards Hazratganj, traffic was halted along the route. Medical camps and water kiosks were set up at intervals to assist participants in the heat.
The march covered around 2 km from 5, KD Marg to the Vidhan Sabha, passing through key junctions before culminating in a public meeting. Outside the Vidhan Sabha, arrangements, including water coolers and fans, were put in place to provide relief to the women participants....
