93 years of care at Queen Mary's
LUCKNOW, Dec. 6 -- The department of obstetrics and gynecology (OB-GYN ) at Queen Mary's Hospital, King George's Medical University (KGMU), celebrated its 93rd foundation day on Friday. Dr Jaya Chaturvedi, head of the department of obstetrics and gynecology at AIIMS Rishikesh, spoke on "Endocrine Disruptors and Women's Health", highlighting the rising public health risks associated with endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs), which are becoming more common in the environment, food chain, and everyday consumer products.
Dr Chaturvedi highlighted that these chemicals disrupt hormonal balance and are linked to numerous women's health problems, including menstrual disorders, infertility, PCOS, thyroid issues, pregnancy complications, and hormone-related cancers.
The KGMU's department of obstetrics and gynaecology made significant progress in 2024-25, introducing several new facilities, including a baby-feeding pod and six new specialty clinics operating from 2-4 pm. A maternal sick newborn care unit was also established-an initiative proven to greatly improve the survival of sick and preterm infants....
