GORAKHPUR, April 3 -- A giant amusement swing ride collapsed Wednesday night at the Chaitra Purnima fair in Khadda town, Kushinagar district, leaving nine people injured while operating. The incident prompted immediate rescue efforts as panic swept through the fairground. The accident unfolded when a loud cracking sound erupted. The ride reportedly uprooted, crashing to the ground, damaging nearby stalls in the process. Mahendra Singh Tanwar, district magistrate, said the incident occurred in Bhainsa village under Khadda town. "Preliminary investigation suggests that a technical fault developed in the swing ride, leading to injuries to nine people," he said. Officials suggested the number of injured could be higher. According to police sources, nearly 50 people were seated on the swing when the structure collapsed. Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud cracking sound moments before the ride tilted, falling, trapping several people underneath. Local residents along with police personnel immediately launched rescue operations, pulling out the injured, who were rushed to nearby hospitals. Ramveer Singh, sub-divisional magistrate (SDM), Khadda, said that an inquiry has been ordered into the incident. "The permission safety compliance of the ride are being examined.
