LUCKNOW, July 31 -- A night of routine work ended in fear for eight young restaurant workers who got trapped inside a lift for nearly three hours in a commercial building near Munshi Pulia, Indira Nagar, in the wee hours of Wednesday. Thankfully, the malfunctioning elevator, located in a building that houses a jewellery shop on Ring Road, came to a halt on the ground floor, but failed to open. Locked in with no ventilation, the workers tried to open the lift doors and called for help, but to no avail. Fortunately, one of the workers managed to make a distress call to emergency services. Fire station officer Shatrughan Kumar from Indira Nagar was the first to respond, after which a rescue team was sent immediately. "In a late-night operation, the workers were safely evacuated after being trapped for hours," Kumar said....
