8 women 'excluded' from mass marriage list
VARANASI, March 25 -- Despite registration, the names of eight eligible women were allegedly dropped from the list of those selected for a mass marriage ceremony organised under Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana on DIET campus in Urmaura, Robertsganj, in Sonbhadra district on Monday.
Alleging this, Markundi village head Udham Singh Yadav claimed that an official told him about the exclusion of the eight women of his village from the list and said that the target had been completed. Yadav said online applications of the eight women, belonging to poor families of his village, were earlier approved under the scheme.
However, on March 21, an official attached to the block development officer (BDO) of Robertsganj informed them-citing instructions from the BDO-that the beneficiaries within their gram panchayat were being excluded from the proposed mass marriage because the target set for scheme had already been achieved, the village head claimed.
Yadav and villagers, including Rameshwar Prasad, Ratan Lal, Vinod, Narad, Bachau, Guddi, and others, submitted a letter in his regard to the district social welfare officer.
Jagrati Awasthi, chief development officer, Sonbhadra, said, "If they come, the marriage of the eight eligible beneficiaries will be solemnised in the next mass marriage ceremony proposed in Chopan on March 26."
She said instructions had been given to the district social welfare officer to conduct an inquiry and ensure action....
