8 kids, 2 others sustain burn injuries after flagpole touches high-tension wire
Bahraich, Aug. 23 -- Chaos marred celebrations during a Janmashtami idol immersion procession in Nimnihara, Nawabganj, in Bahraich on Friday afternoon when a steel pipe-mounted flag touched a high-tension electric wire. Eight children were among 10 people who sustained burn injuries in the accident.
The accident occurred around 3pm when villagers were carrying out the Janmashtami procession.
A child carrying the flag unknowingly raised it and it touched the overhead wire, resulting in a sudden electric shock. Panic spread as children and others fell to the ground with burn injuries.
Sanjana (7), Sahib (10), Rachna (9), Rakesh (10), Akash (8), Sachin (6), Raktar (5), Tahseem (8) and Ehsan (10) Lakshmi (45), and Vidyaram (35) sustained burn injuries in the mishap.
The injured were rushed to CHC Charda. Doctors said most are stable, but 10-year-old Israr was in critical condition and had been referred to Bahraich District Hospital.
On being informed, SDM Nanpara Monalisa Johri, ASP (rural) Durga Prasad Tripathi, CO Pradhuman Singh, SO Rama Shankar Yadav reached the spot and inquired about the incident.
Taking note of the incident, district magistrate Akshay Tripathi and SP Ram Nayan Singh also reached the spot.
Officials said full medical support was being provided. Police appealed to the public to avoid carrying metallic poles near overhead high-tension lines to prevent such mishaps....
