LUCKNOW, July 25 -- A group of eight family members, including five women, attempted self-immolation outside the Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Bhawan in Lucknow on Wednesday afternoon, alleging injustice in a criminal case involving a family member. The incident took place near Gate No 4 of the assembly complex under Hazratganj police limits. The group, comprising members in their 20s to late 60s, included residents from Barabanki and Lucknow. According to Lucknow Police, the protest was staged over the alleged wrongful imprisonment of a male relative, booked under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (related to murder) in a case lodged at Ghunghter police station in Barabanki. The situation escalated when a woman from the group poured petrol on herself and tried to set herself ablaze. "The Anti-Self-Immolation Squad acted swiftly and prevented any harm. All eight were rescued and brought to Hazratganj police station for questioning," SHO Hazratganj Vikram Singh said.
