7th edition of Ayodhya Ramleela from Sept 21
LUCKNOW, July 22 -- Ayodhya's iconic Ramleela is set to return for its seventh consecutive edition from September 21 to October 2 - once again turning the sacred Ramkatha Park on the Sarayu banks into a live stage for India's epic heritage, performed by some of Bollywood's most celebrated actors.
What began as a cultural experiment has now transformed into a national spectacle, merging religious theatre with mainstream stardom. Over the past six years, Ayodhya's Ramleela has redefined the boundaries of devotional storytelling by casting familiar film and television faces in the roles of mythological figures.
This year, the grandeur continues with actor Puneet Issar-renowned for his iconic portrayal of Duryodhana in Mahabharat-taking on the role of the fierce sage Parshuram. Vindu Dara Singh, a perennial presence in Ramleela circuits for his portrayal of Lord Hanuman, will bring a fresh energy to the character of Lord Shiva this time. Veteran actor Rakesh Bedi will step into the role of King Dasharath, while Raza Murad's deep baritone will once again echo as the formidable Ravana.
Adding to the cast is Bhojpuri star-turned-MP Ravi Kishan who will portray Nishadraj. Singer and MP Manoj Tiwari returns to the stage as Bali. "Each year, we try to raise the artistic and devotional standard of the performance. The inclusion of national cinema icons has given Ramleela a new visual language without compromising its sanctity," said Shubham Malik, general secretary of the Ramleela Committee. Icons from past editions will reprise their roles : Padma Shri Malini Awasthi as Shabari, Sooryavansham fame Sheeba as Mandodari, and Ritu Shivpuri as Queen Sunayana....
