75,000 saplings planted to revive Sirsa river
Agra, July 16 -- As part of a state government initiative to revive dying rivers, efforts are underway to rejuvenate the 108-kilometre-long Sirsa river in Firozabad district.
The river passes through 49 villages in the blocks of Tundla, Narkhi, Madanpur, and Shikohabad.This rainy season, around 75,000 saplings have been planted along the riverbanks to aid in its revival.
District Magistrate Ramesh Ranjan said the government's initiative aims to bring back life to rivers that are drying up due to water scarcity and climate change. Chief Development Officer Shatrohan Sinha also joined the plantation drive.
"We started with the Sirsa river as it has remained dry for most of the year for over a decade. Farmers in the villages along the river have welcomed this move," said Ranjan.
"With the active participation of gram pradhans, the sapling drive will help prevent soil erosion. A revived river will support the ecosystem, ensure water availability, and help realise the prime minister's vision of doubling farmers' income," he added....
