72 streetlight poles vanish, nobody notices
LUCKNOW, May 11 -- In a bizarre theft case from the city's upscale Gomtinagar Extension area, police have uncovered a gang that allegedly stole 72 streetlight poles from a residential township and sold them to scrap dealers over time.
"Two accused, Anjeet Rawat, 23, and Shobhit Yadav, 19, both residents of Baghamau village, were arrested late Saturday night near Bandha Road with an aluminium streetlight pole worth around Rs.25,000 in their possession," said Sudheer Awasthi, SHO of Gomti Nagar extension.
The case came to light after Sumant Singh, chief security officer of Shalimar Corp Ltd, lodged a complaint on May 7, alleging that dozens of poles had gone missing from the steel yard of Shalimar One World township, according to a police press note.
"During investigation, police found that the accused, along with several accomplices, had allegedly stolen 72 steel and aluminium poles over a period of time and sold them to scrap dealers in and around the city," the SHO added.
Police stated that seven other accused-Anshu Rajput, Kunal Kashyap, Aryan Kashyap, Pawan Gautam, Ayush Yadav, Prince Kashyap, and Raman-are still absconding. The role of the scrap dealers who allegedly purchased the stolen material is also under investigation. htc...
