PRAYAGRAJ, Dec. 3 -- In a wildlife crime bust, police near Mendra crossing in Mansurabad area under Nawabganj police station area caught seven individuals in possession of blue bull meat late night on Monday. Six of the accused are residents of Pratapgarh and one hails from Mumbai. Police officials also rec- overed a firearm from the group. Police said a black SUV was intercepted near Kachhna village, from which they recovered nilgai meat along with a cache of weapons - a double-barrel gun, five live cartridges, one spent cartridge, two country-made bombs, an axe and four knives. According to ACP (Soraon) Shyamjit Singh, police acted on a tip-off received late Monday night that a group travelling in a black SUV was carrying blue bull meat after allegedly shooting the animal in the Bhairav Baba Kachaar area. Acting swiftly, the police team laid a trap and arrested the suspects along with the vehicle. Those arrested have been identified as Mohammad Azhar Sheikh, Faiz Farooqui, Athar Farooqui, Mohammad Marij, Sarwar Alam and Mohammad Nafees- all from Hathigawan in Pratapgarh- and Gayasuddin from Bandra, Mumbai. During interrogation, the accused admitted that they had shot the blue bull near Bhairav Baba Kachaar and were transporting the meat to host a party. They also claimed they were carrying the gun and crude bombs "for their own security." The investigation further revealed that the gun belo- nged to accused Azhar Sheikh and was licensed, he said. Police have registered a case under the Wildlife Protection Act, the Arms Act and the Explosive Substances Act. All seven accused have been sent to jail, police added....
