7 members of two families killed after car falls off bridge in Jaipur
Jaipur, Sept. 15 -- At least seven members from two families, including two minors, died after the car they were travelling in lost control and fell off a bridge near Jaipur in Rajasthan on Sunday, police said.
According to Shivdaspura police station house officer (SHO) Surendra Soni, the incident occurred at around 1am when the car fell off the Ring Road near the Prahladpura area.
"The car was discovered by locals in the underpass at 12.30pm. The passengers were returning from Haridwar after performing the last rites of one of their relatives," Soni said.
The officer said that the underpass was under-construction with locals rarely frequenting the area, which is why it took almost after 12 hours for the car to be found. "On Sunday afternoon, the locals discovered the damaged car lying overturned on the underpass and reported it the police," the SHO said, adding that police later reached the spot upon receiving information, recovered the car and its passengers using a crane.
Soni said that the car was likely overspeeding at the time of the incident.
"The accident happened due to overspeeding, following which it lost control on the overbridge, crushed a divider, and fell 16-feet down into the underpass which was filled with knee-deep water due to the recent rains," he said.
All seven passengers -- three from Jaipur's Snaganer area and four others from Kekadi area -- died on the spot. They were identified as Jaipur-based Ramraj Vaishnaw (38), who was driving the car, his wife Madhu Vaishnaw (36), and Rudra Vaishnaw (14 months) along with the Kekadi-based Kaluram Sadu (47), his wife Seema (46), son Rohit Sadu (23), and grandson Gajraj (3).
The two families were on their way back home after completing the last rites of Kaluram's father in Haridwar, Uttarakhand.
"The bodies have been sent for an autopsy. Their family members have been informed. Further probe is underway," Soni said....
