Bikaner, Nov. 19 -- A local court in Bikaner on Monday sentenced seven members of the same family to life imprisonment for the 2014 murder of Bhanwarnath in Bamblu village of Jamsar police station area in Bikaner district, lawyers familiar with court proceedings said on Tuesday. The court also imposed a fine of Rs.22,000 on each convict, with an additional six-month prison term if the amount was not paid, added lawyers quoted above. The judgment was delivered by the Additional District and Sessions Judge, who held all seven accused guilty under Sections 302/149 and 147 of the IPC, noting that the crime was a collective, deliberate act of violence carried out with clear intent to kill. All seven convicts belong to the same extended family- Mohan Nath, Hem Nath, and Dhanna Nath are brothers, Shankar Nath is Hemnath's son, Badhu Devi is his wife and Saroj and Sita are their daughters, said additional public prosecutor Basant Kumar Mohta. According to Mohta, the incident dates back to May 7, 2014, when Bhanwar Nath, a resident of Jamsar, was on his way to visit his uncle. According to the FIR filed by his brother, Anna Nath, a pickup truck carrying the accused Mohan Nath, Hem Nath, Dhanna Nath, Shankar Nath, Badhu Devi, Saroj and Sita staged an ambush and launched a coordinated assault on him. During the attack, the pickup driven by the accused crashed into a wall that forced the attackers to abandon the vehicle and flee. Bhanwarnath, who sustained multiple severe injuries, was rushed to PBM Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Mohta said the prosecution presented a comprehensive set of evidence including 14 witness testimonies, 34 documentary exhibits, bloodstained clothes, a stick, control samples, and other incriminating material recovered from the crime scene.
